What happens when it's too big
Meta doesn't document what happens when a file is too big. It doesn't publish a separate video limit either: the 25 MB line in its help center covers photos, voice messages, GIFs and stickers.
Messenger's own way round it
Messenger has no built-in route past 100 MB. Meta raised the file limit to 100 MB in April 2024, alongside HD photos, and that's the ceiling.
The usual fallback is a cloud-drive link pasted into the chat, after the file has uploaded.
Or skip the upload
Paste a download.fyi link into the conversation instead. It works for videos and anything else at any size, and it's three words, so it's easy to type on a phone.
The file goes straight from your device to theirs while the page is open. To leave it for later, a pass keeps the file online for 14 days (up to 100 GB, $5) or 30 days (up to 500 GB, $9), paid once.
Questions
What's the Messenger video size limit?
Meta doesn't publish one separately. Files can be up to 100 MB; for anything longer, send a link.
Can I send a PDF over 100 MB on Messenger?
No. Send it as a download.fyi link instead.
Does the other person need an account to open the link?
No. It opens in any browser, on a phone or a computer.
Other apps' limits
Sign up. Upload. Wait. Just drop it.
No account and no size cap. Your link is ready the moment you pick a file.
