What happens when it's too big
Yahoo's help is short on this: emails can't exceed 25 MB. It doesn't describe anything automatic, like turning the file into a link, so the email simply won't go.
Because the same 25 MB covers mail you receive, a big email from a service with a higher limit, such as a Microsoft 365 work mailbox at its 35 MB default, can be refused at your end.
Yahoo Mail's own way round it
Yahoo's help pages don't offer a way round it. The usual answer is to upload the file to a cloud drive and paste the link into the email. That works, but the whole file has to upload before they can start, and it uses your storage while it sits there.
Or make the file smaller. Zipping helps with documents; photos and video are already compressed, so a zip barely shrinks them.
Or skip the upload
A download.fyi link fits in any Yahoo email. Drop the file, paste the link, and it streams from your browser to theirs as soon as they open it. No 25 MB cap and no upload to wait for.
Need it to stay up after you close the laptop? A pass keeps the file online for 14 days (up to 100 GB, $5) or 30 days (up to 500 GB, $9), paid once.
