What happens when it's too big
Telegram doesn't say what happens when a file is over the limit. Its FAQ gives the ceiling and leaves it there: files of up to 2 GB each, any type.
It's a per-file limit, not a quota. You can send as many 2 GB files as you like, and Telegram keeps them in its cloud so they sync to your other devices.
Telegram's own way round it
Telegram's answer is Premium, which doubles the limit to 4 GB per file. The person you send it to doesn't need Premium to download it.
Beyond 4 GB, the only route inside Telegram is splitting the file into parts and joining them back together at the other end.
Or skip the upload
download.fyi has no per-file cap, so a 6 GB render or a 40 GB backup goes as one link. Paste it into the chat; it streams from your device to theirs while you keep the page open.
Unlike Telegram's cloud, we don't keep a copy. A live transfer only exists while you're both connected, and only your two browsers can read it.
